The Lamp that Dispels Darkness, a text by Ju Mipham Rinpoche, provides profound practice instructions pointing out the essence of mind. These clear, uncomplicated instructions make it possible for ordinary individuals who live and work in the mundane world to practice and realize the nature of mind in one lifetime. This text, translated by Erik Pema Kunsang, is included with these recordings. In these talks, Thrangu Rinpoche provides commentary on the three instructions presented in this text: (1) The Instruction in Breaking Open the Eggshell of Ignorance; (2) The Instruction in Cutting Through the Web of Existence; and (3) The Instruction of Abiding in Space-like Equanimity. Rinpoche also presents teachings on the concluding section of the text, The Spontaneously Present Kayas. At the end of Talk one, Rinpoche meditates with the group, providing a perfect opportunity to practice the first instruction. At the end of both the second and fourth talks, Rinpoche provides an extensive opportunity for questions from the students. There is an amazing amount of information packed into this short weekend program. These instructions provide profound methods of practice including guidance on working with meditation experiences and obstructions. The information in this text can provide the basis for a lifetime of practice.
