Rita M. Gross looks at sexism and related issues that have infused Buddhism for centuries. While virtually all Buddhist practitioners acknowledge that the ability to realize the nature of mind is not gender dependent, cultural and social habitual patterns make teachings and practice opportunities more difficult for women to obtain. Dr. Gross explores these issues and the problems they cause. She is an advocate of the “middle way”  of working with these issues that avoids the extremes of aggressive righteous anger and simply giving up on seemingly intractable situations. Three talks.
