Whether you have previously received and practiced extensive teachings on mahamudra or are looking for an introduction to mahamudra practice you will find these recordings extremely helpful. Rinpoche begins by placing mahamudra in the context of the three yana Buddhist journey, explaining how impermanence, emptiness, non-duality, bodhicitta and accumulation of merit relate to realizing the nature of mind. He then teaches about the indirect and direct lineage of mahamudra and explains the importance of the spiritual friend to mahamudra practice. Rinpoche elucidates the meaning of the term mahamudra, describes the three approaches to mahamudra (sutra, mantra and essence) and provides an extensive explanation of ground mahamudra, including the way in which confusion arises. Rinpoche then explains the meaning of path mahamudra, including the experiential nature of the path and what is to be realized on the path. Continuing with path mahamudra, Rinpoche teaches the three essential points of resting the mind (non-distraction, non-meditation and non-contrivance), the role of devotion in path mahamudra, and why it is important to work with our minds on a deep level. Rinpoche concludes by teaching several profound and unique mahamudra shamatha and vipashyana practices. During these talks, Rinpoche provides opportunities for questions and conducts several meditation practice sessions. Rinpoche presents many of these teachings in English. Translation assistance is provided by Tyler Dewar. 12 talks on six DVDs.
